I treasure Brak. I weak to tape all the episodes of Cartoon Planet (aloof far and away the funniest Brak stuff ever to be broadcast) and note it to my friends, who would topple on the floor laughing. I also loved early episodes of The Brak Reveal, with it’s perfect dynamic of Brak, his Ricardo Montalban-meets- Desi Arnaz dad and June Cleaver mom (wonderfully voiced by Marsha Crenshaw) . When the first Brak DVD came out, a lot of fans went straight for the extras and found, to our delight, a bunch of the hysterically amusing stuff from Cartoon Planet. Tremendous! Now, if only they would release a second volume with all the classic CP Brak stuff that wasn’t included on the first DVD. And then…woah! We heard that a second volume would be released! General excitement filled the air for Brak fans everywhere (everytime I wear my Brak T-shirt, in any city or country, people give me the thumbs up as I drag by) and we all salivated over what would surely include more terrific extras, like volume one did. Now, given that Marsha Crenshaw had been replaced by someone with a completely unfunny (and generally reviled by fans) British accent, the extras would be the only thing that could possibly sell this second volume, but it was more than enough. And then, it arrived. Alas, no extras, no episodes with Marsha Crenshaw as Brak’s mom, and a generally disappointing, if not depressing, DVD. Oh well, maybe Cartoon Network will someday release Cartoon Planet on DVD. They should, given that it was the funniest thing the network ever aired. Brak Volume 2 is one major, major missed opportunity.

No extras, missing the Fresh Year’s Eve Special, and there’s really no reason this had to be on 2 DVD’s. Especially disappointing considering how ample Volume 1 was. Seems like it was fair thrown together, and build out mercurial to win the expose out of Adult Swim’s hair.

Here is an individual review of each movie:

Pokemon: The First Movie (5 Stars)

This was the first movie that was released theatrically in the U.S., that contained the first mini-movie called Pikachu’s Vacation. The Pikachu’s Vacation short was downright hilarious and cute! The movie itself entitled “Mewtwo Strikes Relieve” is a darker descent into the world of Pokemon! An awesome movie overall. The DVD is beneficial to the video for these reasons, an informative audio commentary with the director and producer, the M2M “Don’t Say You Appreciate Me” music video, sneak stare for Pokemon 2000, two deleted scenes “Origin of Mewtwo” (which can be seen on the video following the minimovie) and “Ash’s Scuttle” (which if you possess the soundtrack album and keep it in your computer and watched the bonus footage, this is what was on there. This is sort of an overview for the parents who don’t understand Pokemon to begin opinion who the characters are.) The awful thing about this DVD is that the movie is presented in 1.33:1 Full-Frame aspect ratio! The plus is that whenever Mewtwo talks to the humans his verbalize is radiated in perfect 5.1 audio, and when he talks to himself it’s in sure stereo!

Pokemon 2000 (4 Stars)

Slightly less suitable due to the lack of humor and excitement in the minimovie “Pikachu’s Rescue Adventure”! Overall the movie (entitled) “The Power of One”, is the A point of the movie! The movie is murky and adventurous with awesome characters and CGI! The DVD is awful though, first of all because this movie is presented in full-frame also, and there are no icy features except for the sneak seek at Pokemon 3! Beautiful first-rate, best if bought on VHS though!

Pokemon 3: The Movie (3 Stars)

This by far is one of the least animated mostly due to the stupidity and bad humor that was poorly constructed in the minimovie called “Pikachu and Pichu”! The movie called “Entei: Spell of the Unown” is spectacular! This is the second best movie out of the entire series so far! This redeems the time wasted by “P&P” before the movie. If you are into sentemental action-adventure then this is for you! The DVD is sizable too, it doesn’t have tremendous features but there aloof keen, Audio Commentary with the director (the worst commentary…EVER!), making of the “Know The Unknown” Music video, Johto Pokerap music video, and the Japanese language sneak look trailer of Pokemon 4 (that will be released by Miramax, not Warner Bros. who made the first three, hopefully in slack 2002)! The only abominable thing about the DVD is the lack of widescreen presentation (YET AGAIN!!) .

If you have seen all 3 movies then there is no doubt on why you should not already have bought this area! Rob THEM NOW! I can’t wait until Miramax releases the next 2 movies in which the first (Pokemon 4) will hopefully be released in 2002!

First off I don’t possess this region simply because they are not available in widescreen format. Gloomy thing is I don’t know if they ever will be. Anyway I have seen all four of the pokemon movies and enjoyed them all. If I were to inappropriate them from best to worst it would be as follows..Pokemon The First Movie, Pokemon 4ever, Pokemon 3 and finally Pokemon 2000. Since this spot does not have piece 4 (Due for release in March 2003) I will only review the 3 in this region.

Pokemon The First Movie is by far the best of the unusual 3 as well as the mini movie. The mini movie was nothing more than a immense comedy caper to prepare you for the somewhat darker atmosphere of the first movie. If you have yet to eye a pokemon tv episode it dosnt matter. You’ll like this movie greatly. Mew’s clone created by Giovanni of team rocket now self conscious wants nothing more to do with giovanni or the human speed for that matter. After destroying the lab and fleeing to a nearby island Mewtwo clones his hold army of pokemon intent on taking over the human rush or eliminating them. One of the best lines in this movie is when Jessie, James and Meowth are witnessing the birth of the clones as the clone sillohuete passes by James utters “Who’s that pokemon?!”. Priceless. If you dont understand that joke you have never seen the tv display.

Pokemon 2000 is my least celebrated of the bunch. I only seen it like two times so I dont remember mighty about it other than it deals with three legendary bird type pokemon. And Sloking utters a very laughable line that had nothing to do with anything that had gone on in the movie since. “I could expend some pants now” not an genuine quote but laughable none the less.
Part 3 alot better. Entei was unbiased insane. Makeing that slight girl wish for her mommy near accurate in the despicable arrangement. He kidnaps Ash’s mom and the tiny girl thinks she’s her mom. Of course Brok falls for the miniature girl as a teenager. She wished she could be older and got her wish compliments of Entei. Anyway I only seen this one once so there is no comical quote as I am positive there is one. To review Piece one the best, share two the worst and portion 3 a very pleasant one indeed. Now if whoever owns the rights to these movies please re-relaese them on dvd with commentaries on all 3, widescreen presentations on all 3 as well as the novel Japanese language versions of all 3. Win with it you studios.

As a titanic fan of older films and music, I am very aware of the many attempts of studios and characterize companies to reissue and re-market a previously released product in a recent and improved format. While many of these reissues are often suited to their previously released counterparts, I have never been one to take into the “upgrades”. I feel that you don’t need to have the best sound, the crispest characterize, or the excess of supplemental materials in order to savor a film and have it affect you. In all my years collecting music CD’s (particularly jazz) and DVDs, I reflect I’ve upgraded no more than three items from my collections.

I had been hearing for a while now about a fresh version of Seven Samurai coming out on Criterion that was supposed to have a label novel transfer from a recently discovered source that was to be greatly improved from any other previous edition. Being one of the most beloved films of all time (and one of mine as well), this has been creating alot of excitement in the world of film lovers. Being perfectly blissful with my version of the Seven Samurai DVD from 1998, I had no plans to upgrade, but a side by side comparison on an internet residence peaked my curiosity. And yesterday, being at a local retailer, I saw it on the shelf and decided to spring for it.

Let me hiss you….if ANY of you are on the fence about this one, particularly those of you who are immense fans of this improbable film, I remark you to go for it. The disagreement between this edition and the previous edition is so drastic that I could not own my eyes and ears. I have never had this experience with a DVD before, but the improvements in relate and sound quality are SO enormous that I actually felt like I was watching Seven Samurai for the first time. The clarity of the relate is absolutely astounding. The ravishing dark and white tones are considerable richer, but what’s most impressive is how nearly all the imperfections, scratches, and blemishes that were so prevalent on the previous edition have been removed. You can enlighten why this edition took so long to gather released….Criterion obviously took alot of time with this one. Their efforts paid off. Also, the sound has been greatly improved as well. Not only have they cleaned up the recent mono soundtrack, but they’ve added a stereo surround track as well. Normally, I cringe at these “fresh and improved” soundtracks on former films, but this track does not sound artificial at all, but rather more like an enhanced version of the mono track. The stereo surround track together with the blooming unique represent made for a fresh experience watching the film. You are level-headed watching the tall Kurosawa classic that you know and admire, but at the same time it seems that even more life has been breathed into it. Didn’t consider that was possible for such a perfect film, but Criterion proved any doubter deplorable.

Please preserve in mind that I haven’t even gotten to the bonus materials, the commentary tracks, nor the very elegant book yet. And there isn’t mighty more that I can say about this wonderful film that hasn’t already been said. Honest based on the presentation of the film itself in this unique package from Criterion, I would highly recommend to everybody who loves this film and is thinking about upgrading their version of the film, that you do so. Its shapely. And remember, this is coming from someone who doesn’t generaly care for “upgrades”.

Akira Kurosawa made “Seven Samurai” because he wanted to construct a genuine “jidai-geki,” a actual period-film that would expose the past as meaningful, while also being an engaging film. Kurosawa considered “Rashomon,” the film rightfully credited with making the West aware of the Japanese cinema, with being neither. But in his attempt to obtain a truly “realistic” film, Kurosawa redefined the conflict at the heart of Japanese films. Before “Seven Samurai” this conflict was that of treasure versus duty, where the central character is compelled by fate to sacrifice what he loves in the name of duty. In “Seven Samurai” the focus remains on duty, yet the conflict is now between the proper and the pretended. Calling yourself a samurai does not earn you one, something proven time and time again in the film, from the test of skill turned deadly between Kyuzo (Seiji Miyaguchi) and the large samurai to the first appearance of Kikuchiyo (Toshirô Mifune), with his stolen pedigree. Like Katshushiro (Ko Kimura), the youngster who wants to learn from the master, Kambei (Takashi Shimura), the audience is educated as to the just nature of the samurai.

For me this film deals with the plucky, albeit in realistic terms. I have shown the film in World Literature classes, after students have read Homer’s “Iliad” and as they launch reading Cervantes’ “Don Quixote.” Within that context, compared to the brutal arrogance of Achilles and the gentle insanity of Quixote, the mettlesome qualities of the seven samurai become positive. Their inspiration extends to some of the villagers. Manzo (Kamatari Fujiwara) is crazed with alarm over the virtue of his daughter, Shino (Keiko Tsushima), and Rikichi (Yoshio Tsuchiya) fights to avenge the disgrace of his wife and his precipitating the death of Heihachi (Minoru Chiaki), but it is the silly Yohei (Bokuzen Hidari), who finds within himself the ability to fight, a die a tragic death, who is the just barometer for what the samurai mean to the village. But the greatest tragedy is that despite this most worthy distress and the bodies buried in honor at the top of the village cemetery, this has been but a temporary union between the villagers and the samurai. When Kambei declares, “We have lost again,” he redefines the battles: it was not to ruin all the bandits, it was to acquire a right station in the world. Yet we should have already known this, for the painful truth was driven home when Kyuzo, the master swordsman, is gunned down from slow. No better proof is needed in this film of the bitter truth that the world is not blooming.

Mifune is the maniacal spirit of this film, as the faux-samurai Kikuchiyo, the dancing whirlwind whose emotions overwhelm everything including himself. But it is Shimura as Kambei, who embodies the mentor mentality with a minimum of danger, evoking more by rubbing his hand over his shaved head or giving a single piercing discover than by any spoken dialogue. Even in a strong ensemble these performances stand out, for clearly different reasons. To fully devour Kurosawa’s mastery in “Seven Samurai” you need to notice the film several times to better be pleased the map he constructs scenes, using contrasting images, evocative music and varying the length of cuts to affect tempo. For example, watch carefully at how the early scene of the farmers searching the streets for samurai and the later sequence where Katsushiro watches Kyuzo and Kikuchiyo waiting for the bandit scouts to return to their horses. Both of these scenes are valid primers to Kurosawa’s style.

For years we had to build with the 160-minute version of the film that was made for export, which was actually called “The Handsome Seven” until John Strugis’s Western remake. Fortunately, “Seven Samurai” has been restored to pudgy 208-minute glory, saved from being a lamentable cinematic tragedy on a par with “Greed,” “The Blooming Ambersons,” and “Ivan the Poor.” There is a sense in which “Seven Samurai” is truly my common film, because it was the one that instilled in me a treasure of cinema, of the craft and art of movie making, of compelling me to understand intellectually how Kurosawa was skillfully manipulating my emotions. The final battle sequences, fought and filmed in a torrent of rain, exhausting characters and audience alike with its increasingly relentless tempo, is given its potency because of the human elements that have been established in all that has taken spot before hand. “Seven Samurai” is a exquisite film against which the gigantic majority of epics pale in comparison. Not even Kurosawa scaled these heights ever again.

This tale is about a girl named Nina. Nina’s dream is that someday she’ll meet a stunning prince who will become her protector. One day, as she’s having cake with some friends at a sidewalk café, she finds an object that looks like a portion of hard candy on her plate. She puts it in her mouth and bites down on it, and that’s when everything goes crazy. Two guys indicate up at her table, swearing that they’ll protect her from anything, and all of a sudden shields go up, and flying bodies begin flowing around the shield and crashing everywhere. Nina, of course, swallows the “hard candy” whole during the excitement.

The two guys flee with her to a unruffled dwelling, and originate to elaborate the space to her. It seems that she has objective witnessed the beginning of a “final exam” for students who wish to become professional sorcerers. The exam consists of the test proctor dropping an object called the “Crystal Pearl” somewhere at random in the human world. The examinees pair off and go searching for the pearl. Whichever team finds the pearl gets to graduate. The teams have until Christmas to locate the pearl and return with it to the magical world. Nina has swallowed the Crystal Pearl.

I concept this memoir might be kind of fun but it was honest… loud. Seems like the philosophize actors shouted about half of their lines. I disfavor that. I understand that the situations were supposed to be appealing and risky, but can’t you pick up some other draw to instruct that besides shouting all the time? And with all of the different powers that the examinees had (hypnosis, summoning, talismans, barriers, elemental attacks, etc.), don’t you believe that you might arrive up with something besides the same obsolete tricks and traps (body swapping, age transformations, animal transformations,… my God, they even borrowed the advise stealing from “The Petite Mermaid”) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Save Me! Lollipop: The Complete Series! Click Here

There was one episode that showed some imagination, though. And surprisingly, it revolved around one of the other teams. It seems that one of the girls, San, was regarded as cursed in her home world. San’s mother became ill shortly after San was born, and it seemed as though the more time that San spent with her mother, the sicker her mother became. San’s grandfather forbade them to be together, but even so, San’s mother eventually died. And everybody blamed terrible runt San, even though it was distinct that San loved her mother. The only one who stood by San was her cousin, Forte. (This episode also had a song in it that was really creepy.)

All in all, I have to say that this one was a disappointment. Granted, it ended well, but it had the potential to be so noteworthy better.

I simply loved this DVD. There was the suitable things, and the terrible things

Good Things:

Very Funny

Entertaining

Also comes in Japanese with subtitles

Bad Things:

Sometimes Scream Acting sounds cheesy

Storyline is all over the spot in obvious episodes

Episodes may be repetitive(because in every episode, Nina is in grief and gets saved by Ichii and Zero)

Overall, I rate it 4 stars. It’s favorable, but not something to converse your anime-loving friends.

This is a well-behaved anime for people who like Romance, Magic, Fantasy, and Comedy. This is a Shoujo anime, mostly girls will luxuriate in this.

I suggest to consume this even if you don’t like the english dub, because it also comes in Japanese with english subs. Hope this review helps!

William Devane was incredible in this movie, as usual! The movie has it all…drama, intrigue, excitement, tears, humor, romance, patrioticsm and the Christmas Spirit! Although a small predictable, it is aloof a unbelievable movie the entire family can peruse! It isn’t often you glimpse a movie that leaves you with a favorable feeling in your heart!!!! This is one of those movies! A broad movie to contemplate anytime, not impartial at Christmas! A unbelievable, thought-provoking movie for those who have a lost a loved one in the war!

The “Holidays” seem to be synonmous with “family”. For this family, there are no more holidays because their son was killed in the Gulf War. You don’t have to have lost a loved one to understand the emotions in this epic. There’s only a few characters but they play their parts superbly. My celebrated Christmas movie.
